Suburban Shanghai Sanctuary
【Design Concept】
In the heart of the city’s cultural district, Icon Hotel is not just a place to stay, but a manifesto of modern urban living. Conceived as a dialogue between transparency and structure, the design introduces the "Crystal Grid"—a towering, permeable screen that wraps around the core of the building. This architectural gesture serves as a metaphor for the city itself: layered, interconnected, and full of light. The hotel is designed for the discerning traveler who seeks not just comfort, but a spatial experience that engages the senses and sparks curiosity.
【Material Palette】
The material narrative is a study in contrasts: the cool, reflective surface of the glass block wall against the warmth of aged brass and rich, dark timber. The floors are laid with large-format porcelain tiles that echo the geometry of the grid, while the furniture combines sleek, minimalist forms with tactile, hand-finished details. A restrained color palette—charcoal, ivory, and bronze—allows the textures and patterns to take center stage. The interplay of light and shadow throughout the day creates a dynamic, ever-changing canvas.
【Spatial Experience】
The lobby is a grand, light-filled atrium where the Crystal Grid acts as both a visual anchor and a spatial filter. Daylight filters through the semi-transparent blocks, casting a mosaic of shadows on the polished floors. Seating areas are arranged to encourage both social interaction and quiet contemplation, with low-slung sofas and sculptural coffee tables inviting guests to linger.
In the guest rooms, the design language becomes more intimate. Floor-to-ceiling windows frame city views, while the en-suite bathrooms feature bold, graphic tiles and matte black fixtures that add a touch of drama. The overall effect is one of understated luxury—a space that feels both contemporary and timeless, like a well-curated piece of art.
